I thought I could earn money here on Medium like some other people do but apparently I can’t…
Despite my intentions I hardly ever write and share anything here on Medium, but when I do publish a story and when I keep getting told that I can make my stories eligible to earn money, the thought of it becomes rather interesting.
Although I don’t get many views and reads on my stories I decided, “why not”. Let me see if by joining I can make an extra penny here and there.
I clicked to learn more. I read the info and I clicked to join. I get shown all the terms and conditions which I need to agree to. I agree and then on the next step, the step where I need to enter my bank details to receive payment I get this message.
Thank you so much Medium!! But that’s ok. It’s not going to stop me from writing or sharing stories on here. Oh no… if anything I may actually write more and more but with one difference.
I am literally going to write a paragraph or 2 and then put a link to the rest of the article. The article will live on my website where I can get readers onto my email list and where I can earn thanks to affiliate links.
This is actually the best way. Imagine writing on Medium, earning money from Medium and then one day Medium disappears. Gone are all your followers and your money is gone too.
This is the problem with using platforms that don’t belong to you. At least on your own blog or on your own website you have complete control.
Drive traffic to your own website as often as possible and get email addresses from your website visitors. One day when a platform that you have become popular on disappears, you will thank me.
